Bill Self not a fan of Craig Smith firing before end of the season
Sounds like Bill Self recently had some words about the recent firing of Craig Smith before the season concluded. Instead they went ahead and fired Smith and hired Alex Jensen instead.
Bill Self, the coach of the Kansas Jayhawks. All he really said was that he is not a fan of teams firing coaches as the season is still ongoing. I don’t think he was against the firing, just the time of the firing.
Do you agree with him though? I don’t think this season is going anywhere, so I figured it’d be fine if we let Smith run the season out. But it seems Utah had another idea and chose to fire him instead.

I was never a fan of the firing right away, especially now since we’re in the Big 12 tournament. It doesn’t help these guys to have to go through a coach change as the season is still going. I think it kind of does a disservice to the team and to Smith.
But, we have to move on at this point, because what is done, is done. Smith is no longer their coach and we all need to accept it.

I think it was the right call to fire him, but I too would’ve waited until the season was officially over. Because I doubt Jensen is going to bring us on some run in this tournament either. So in a way, it didn’t matter, but I think it probably ruffled some feathers in the roster and staff.

We all knew the firing was coming, but I too expected it int he offseason sometime. Not with like a few games left on their season.
Bill Self is right, but I don’t think it mattered so much this season.

What can you do now? It’s done and over with. Doubt it would’ve made a big difference to fire him now than it was to fire him a few weeks ago. It’s not like we would have gone further with Smith.
We have to move on now, it’s time for a new era in Utah, hopefully this era evolves into a much longer one than the Craig Smith era.

Nothing, but say our apologies and move on. I don’t think we even need to do that. Best to move on and let it go. Sure we might have hate from some fans for a while, but they’ll get over it.

Oh boo hoo, we fired him, time to move on. Yeah it sucks we did it late in the season with games left on the schedule, but I think it was the right call.

I respect Bill Self and his view on this whole situation. It was a bad way to fire Smith, but I think it’s time to move on, let the past be the past. Smith will go on to find success elsewhere, I’m sure of it.
