Utah to eliminate beach volleyball program after record season
This is pretty sad to hear. Even after the Utes have been dominant in the sport, it seems Utah us outright skipping out of their beach volleyball program. After 9 seasons, the program is being eliminated. Head coach Brenda Whicker also announced her retirement after the news.

To be fair, isn’t volleyball kind of a niche sport? It’s not the most popular of our sports, and I can’t imagine having two variations of it makes much sense. I imagine volleyball itself will still be a part of Utah’s repertoire. Sucks they lose out, but I imagine the talent in the beach volleyball side could take part in regular volleyball, right?

I think it’s a big loss. Any sport that gives more players a chance to play is good in my opinion.

Not a big loss in my opinion, especially when we already have volleyball. And who knows, maybe it’ll make a comeback one day.

Is it bad that I didn’t even know we had beach volleyball?

And after a record season too. Hope the women get to play with the volleyball team.

My guess is that it wasn’t popular enough to warrant the pay for it or something.
